About the
Student Society

The Goodman Cancer Student Society (GCSS) is a student-led association created in January 2014 as a way for trainees to voice their ideas and help organize a variety of events in conjunction with the Rosalind & Morris Goodman Cancer Research Institute (GCI). Our initiatives revolve around four main branches: social (holiday-themed and health and wellness-oriented events), outreach (Recruitment Day, Young Women in Bio, collaborations with Montreal RIOT and other student societies), fundraising (Défi Canderel and Terry Fox Foundation) and academic career development (Research Day, Spotlight and GCI Seminar Series).

Your role
when joining
the Student
Society

Responsibilities of GCSS members include joining in GCI fundraising efforts and representing the interests of its students and postdoctoral fellows. Moreover, the student society was given the opportunity to invite international speakers to come share their work with the Institute. On a local scale, weekly presentations featuring the scientific success stories are organized at the Centre through the Spotlight series.

The GCSS consists of five main positions with regularly recurring responsibilities, each filled by a pair of trainees. Members-at-large can attend GCSS meetings, which occur monthly, and assist in events in general. Our members also organize events on behalf of the GCSS, such as fundraising for both the Canderel and Terry Fox run, as well as the annual GCI Christmas Party. In brief, the GCSS plays an integral part in making the GCI an exciting environment where research can be pushed to the edge of science.
